If you need help getting your son or daughter connected to our ministry, Please allow us to help! We promise we’ll do these 3 things: 1. We’ll have one of our leaders call and/or write your student to personally invite him/her to one of our events. 2. We will have one of our student leaders do the same as #1. 3. We’ll share whatever information we can that might help your student get involved. For example, your son might say “I don’t know anyone that goes there.” That’s a fair concern, but chances are that out of the 200 students that come to our youth group, they will know someone. We’ll give you names, offer options and be waiting for them to arrive at an event so they will have someone to sit with. Please allow us to help. Either call us at (310) 374-4673 or email us. The Parents At Hope Chapel, ministry to youth means ministry to their families as well. We are aware that the Bible calls parents to the task of raising their children in a Godly manner. We exist to come alongside the family to help them fulfill this mandate. It is for this reason that we purpose to keep parent’s constantly updated of our programs, to offer classes and training especially for them, and to encourage them to be involved in the ministry. At the beginning of each school year (in September) we offer a parent/student dinner in which we outline all of the programs for the upcoming year. We also give them calendars of the yearly events and introduce them to the youth staff. This is a very valuable time for both parents and staff. Training the Volunteer Leaders Preparation for being a volunteer leader is vital to our ministry. We have an extensive interview and application process for potential leaders. Also, we conduct monthly training for all the faithful involved in the youth ministry. These meetings take place on the first Sunday of each month. During each meeting, we attempt to do four things: 1. Take care of the business of the youth ministry. 2. Train leaders in the “how to’s” of youth ministry. I.E. Youth culture, etc. 3. Encourage and build the volunteers personal lives and relationship with Christ. 4. Pray! (for the church, one another, and the students) We also offer various training throughout the year. 1. Leaders continue to have the opportunity for growth during the annual NIYM conference. All leaders are encouraged to attend each year. 2. We also have one weekend set aside per year for intensive staff training. Personal one on one meetings with the volunteer leaders is vital to the ministry. It is the most important of training and is a priority for me as a Pastor. We also offer training for parents. Once a year (in October) we give a class called, “Reaching The Heart of Your Teen.” The parents that benefit from this class are those who are experiencing difficulties with their teenagers and those who want to prevent difficulties with their students in the future. Quite often, we also counsel with parents on an individual basis. Parents are always invited to attend any meeting. We encourage them to be involved in the ministry and give them opportunities to help us out in any way that they can. We have a few parents involved as actual youth workers; some parents who help us when needed; and others who give rides and provide food as needed.
